To Hear the Wind
Yet another character from Welcome to Soulmarket. I wanted to experiment with different lighting conditions, the shadowed part being a dull blue plus rim light. Also wanted to use a lower detail, more implied painting for his body and clothes. That’s still a style I’m not great at, but I am getting better slowly. I also put in the same sort of implication in the background, with the intention of making it feel lively and moving. That also lent more to practicing with lineless painting which still makes me feel uncomfortable due to the lack of substantial structure that linework usually adds.
As for the title of the piece, its related to the character himself. Seirus’s whole gimmick is speaking to the world around him, listening to the wind and picking up the vibes of the area he’s in. The inspiration for this was partially Shivers from the game Disco Elysium, and the Lonesome Road from Fallout New Vegas, specifically how Ulysses characterizes the Divide. Personifying settings as a narrative tool is truly fascinating to me, and I really wanted to create a character to embody those themes.
